Project Description

Pedala Bike Messengers, Inc. is a social enterprise, a business that considers three bottom lines: profit, environmental action, and social gains.

Pedala offers cost-effective, if not faster, same-day delivery courier services primarily for small and medium enterprises. The company strikes a symbiotic relationship with its clients: as Pedala earns profits for itself it saves costs including fuel and personnel , and time, for its clientele.

We allow our customers to still do quick daily transactions without the need to go physically themselves. This saves a lot of travel expenses, fuel, and time allowing our customers to devote more time for other duties and business as well as use funds that would be allotted for travel/fuel for other purposes.

Pedala also believes in promoting the use of bicycles as a means to minimize the use of fuel, lower pollution levels, and thus allow for safer, cleaner air. Because it doesn’t use gasoline, Pedala is a non-polluting enterprise that doesn’t burn fossil fuels, consequently lowering its clients’ carbon footprint and ours. We are also aware that our service influences not only our clients but the general public that bicycles are a legitimate mode of transportation, especially within the city as it is commonly faster than using a motorized vehicle. There is also the added value of visibility as more cyclists found on the streets enhance the knowledge of drivers and general public on the need to create a safer space for bikers, the numerous trips our riders do every day and the publicity that PEDALA receives increases awareness on a large scale both in practice and through various media outlets.

As a social objective, Pedala seeks to hire cyclists to provide added income -many of our cyclists are from less advantaged backgrounds and riding for PEDALA allows them not only to extend their incomes but also to get healthier allowing for lower health costs and it also promotes the use of bicycles in their segment of our population as an alternative mode of transport without the costs associated with commuting within the city.
